You have options this year. Vote by mail or in-person on or before Election Day.

Vote by Mail

The deadline to request a vote-by-mail package was Monday, September 12, 2022.

If you do not have a package, you may only vote at an upcoming Advance Voting Location or on Election Day at the preferred poll or any poll in your home Ward. Please watch your mail for an official mailing from the City in mid- to late September.

From August 12 until Monday, September 12, 2022, qualified Ward 5 electors may request a vote-by-mail package by: 1) submitting an online request at the City's website; or, 2) in-person by visiting the Service Oshawa counter at City Hall; or, 3) by calling Service Oshawa at 905-436-3311.

After September 12, all electors who did not request a mail-in ballot must vote in Advance or at an Election Day Voting Location.

Only the voter may request a vote-by-mail package. Other individuals, groups or candidates may not request vote-by-mail packages on behalf of a voter.

In addition to providing your name, address and date of birth, any qualified elector making a request to vote-by-mail will be asked to provide:

  - Their e-mail address in the event that an Election Official needs to contact them; and,
  - One (1) piece of identification. You will upload a copy if using the using the online request form; or enclose a photocopy of your ID when returning a ballot package; or by showing your ID at the Service Oshawa desk if visiting in-person.

The City Clerk's Office will send out vote-by-mail packages beginning on September 26 to all qualified Ward 5 voters who requested a package. Each vote-by-mail package will include a ballot, one pre-paid return envelope, and instructions on how to return your ballot.

You will return your marked ballot to the City Clerk in one of two ways, paying close attention to these deadlines:

1. Deposit your marked ballot using the pre-paid envelope in any Canada Post box prior to October 10, 2022; or,
2. Drop off your return envelope in any of the six Vote Oshawa drop boxes (see your ballot package for locations) across Oshawa before October 20, 2022.

Importantly, vote-by-mail packages may not be dropped off at a voting location on Election Day.
